Panacea wins REC@nnect Boot Camp award

KATHMANDU: Panacea, a mobile application from Bangladesh has won the first prize of the REC@nnect Boot Camp Award as an innovative tech entrepreneurship. The application which helps in fighting against counterfeit medicines allows customers to verify themselves whether a drug is genuine or fake via the app and SMS.

The app was selected as the best idea on Wednesday on the concluding day of the three-day event — REC@nnect Startup Boot Camp — held in Kathmandu. Smart Sergisol, a Pakistani startup providing surgical simulators for conventional and robotics assisted MIS won the second price. Likewise, Simplify360, a social business intelligence firm from India bagged the third prize.

REC@nnect is a programme to support technology entrepreneurship throughout South and Central Asia by the international non-profit CRDF Global in partnership with the US Department of State. The three-day regional meet had brought together 40 promising technology entrepreneurs from South and Central Asia in the field of health, agriculture, energy and ICT.

The top 10 startup ideas from the initial 40 that received mentorship and training from renowned international and national mentors, had also showcased their products and services to a panel of judges and audience comprising eminent entrepreneurs, corporate bigwigs, investors, eminent professors, and the startup community in Nepal. Earlier on Wednesday, addressing a Demo Day programme, Minister for Urban Development Narayan Khadka, said that REC@nnect had done a great job in inspiring tech entrepreneurs to share their ideas and showcase their products and services. “People with innovative ideas are the new businessmen,” he said.
