During the swoop conducted on Thursday and Friday, department officials discovered counterfeit Canon toner cartridges at Adhikari Gener-al Store, Adarsha Computer Technosis and Entek Interna-tional. The other two firms Pinnacle Computer System Suppliers and New Toner House were found to be clean.
The department mounted the raid after Canon lodged a complaint with the names of the firms it said had been selling counterfeit toner for use in laser printers and photo copy machines. The complaint was field 2 months ago.
Nepal’s trade mark law prohibits making or selling counterfeit products that affects the business of the genuine manufacturer. “We have seized around 100 Canon toner cartridges from these shops for further investigation,” said Rishi Kesh Dhungel, director of the department.
He added that the type of action to be taken against the counterfeiters would be decided after obtaining their clarification and conducting further investigation.
Dhungel said that the Industry Department had been taking action against violators of trademark laws, citing the action taken against the seller of fake Laurel cream a few months ago as an example of the department’s resolve to stop such offences.
