KATHMANDU, JUL 13 - Gold price on Wednesday set a new record of Rs 37,295 per 10 gm (Rs 43,500 per tola) in the domestic market—an increment of Rs 345 per 10 gm in a single trading day.
The precious yellow metal was traded at Rs 36,950 per 10 gm on Tuesday. The new record has broken the previous record of Rs 37,125 per 10 gm on June 23. The metal's price also hit a record $1578.50 an ounce in the international market on Wednesday as concerns over the euro zone debt crisis deepened.
On Sunday, the gold price was recorded at Rs 36,650 per 10 gm in the local market.
Remaining unchanged on Monday the price had increased by Rs 300 to Rs 36,950 per 10 gm on Tuesday. Gold dealers have attributed the rise in price to weakening US dollar and a slowdown in the global share market.
Tej Ratna Shakya, president of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Association (NEGOSIDA) said the price increased mainly because of the weakening US dollar. "Slump in the international stock market and rise in oil price have attracted investors for investment in gold which propelled gold price," he added. However, the silver price has remained constant for the last two trading days at Rs 883 per 10 gm (Rs 1,030 per tola).
